The Obere Klus
The Obere Klus is situated at 444 metres above sea level in Pfeffingen (BL). The farmstead can be reached via the neighbouring municipality of Aesch. Aesch (BL) lies approximately 12 km from Basel, in the direction of Delémont. The Obere Klus is a place steeped in history, which was mentioned in early writings. It is thought that there were ancient Roman settlements here, as well as early iron ore mining. It lies directly on the Burgengratweg trail, which links the ruins of Münchsberg to Pfeffingen, and at the source of the Klusbach stream.
The Obere Klus is also mentioned in the book «Orte der Kraft» (Places of Power) by Blanche Merz. The place is a wonderful oasis where one can recharge one’s batteries in these hectic times.
The Obere Klus farm was once a grassland holding belonging to the former Sandoz AG. With around 50 dairy cows, it produced premium milk which was sold in the Sandoz AG staff shop. In 1978, the farm was taken over by Urs Leuthardt and operated under a lease until 2013. Daniela Tschaggelar then took over the farm under a lease and, since April 2021, has owned it, running it until 2026.
The young family – Nico and Fiona de Vett, along with their two children, Ronnia and Ivan – will be taking over the farm from 2026.
Natura Beef from the region
Our cattle spend the whole summer on the lush, rolling pastures of the Obere Klus. They are reared in the herd alongside their mothers (suckler cow rearing). We are committed to the BTS/RAUS standard: particularly animal-friendly housing with daily access to outdoor areas in winter and summer grazing. Our cattle are fed on grass and receive no additional concentrated feed.
The health of our cattle is very important to us, which is why we insist on impeccable barn hygiene, enabling us to keep the use of medication to an absolute minimum.
